Workshops, Books and Updates
Secretly busy and stupidly tired
Hello lovely people!
It’s been a while and I wanted to let you know about a few things (like, I’m still here!)
Being a human in the world is… a lot sometimes! I’ve mostly been laying low, recovering from semester and a series of colds, and hanging with my kids.
I’ve also been designing and running workshops. The last one I ran was a series at the Sydney Opera House, where I got to work with two dear friends, Meg O’Shea and Eleri Harris - both brilliant comics makers and teachers.
Turns out, comics workshops are in high demand at the moment.
I’m running two free workshops in Sydney this week.
There is one this Thursday, July 16th, from 6-8pm at the Rhodes Recreation Centre. It’s been listed as “ages 12-24”, but it’s really ages 12-120. We’ll be making comic portraits of people we love and/or hate in 8-fold zine format.
You can sign up for that workshop here.
There is also a workshop the following day, on Friday July 17. That comic workshop is for ages 12-17 (again, slightly younger or older is fine) and it runs from 3-5pm at the Concord Library.
You can sign up for that workshop here.
If you (or anyone you know in Sydney) would like to sign up… uh… sign up!
I am also planning some online workshops and mentorships.
These will be short, 90-120 minute, one off workshops, focused on the work and a techniques of particular artists (who will hopefully be in attendance). I was also thinking I might trial a few comics mentorships if people are interested.
I have yet to lock in times, dates, and details, but I made an EOI you can fill out here. I’ll announce things on here, but if you fill out the form, you’ll be the first to know.
I have restocked my shop… for one week!
I tabled at the Other Worlds Zine Fair with Meg O’Shea on Saturday. Comics people are just the most supportive, kind and funny people there are. It was heaps of fun.
I reprinted lots of my work for the fair and yesterday I went through my website and restocked a lot of my web shop. There are now eleven books/zines in stock, including four new ones and a screen print.
Some of the books have very limited stock and work will only be available to purchase online for the rest of the week. I am lazy with my shop, only pay myself enough to break even, and everything is handmade, so when things sell out… that will be it for a while.
If you want to buy some work, you can find the shop here.
And last thing!
I’ve been finishing up a few different comic ideas and experiments, including the Parallel Worlds exercise (promised last post), but I got distracted the last few weeks making these loose, weird, abstract images with my kids.
Marker.
Brush pen, cut paper, cut up post-it note book tabs, and marker bleed from another drawing.
Brush pen and coloured pencil.
And then, because I’m a comics obsessed maniac, I started turning them into mini comics
And that’s all my news!
More exercises and comics soon (including one about weird, abstract backgrounds that a maniac might turn into a comic).

Ooooooh, the horrible things / good things one really got me! In HS I had the book “10,000 things to be happy about” — my best friend and I each had a copy and we added our own items to the list. I need to get back in touch with that version of myself!
Oh my god those abstract comics!!! I love!
